August iphone photos and Kids Say

Wow! It’s September already. August was a pretty crazy month, as I knew it would be. Now September is here and I feel like there is always so much to do! The past couple of days have consisted of me painting our guest bathroom. We also started school this week (just Science.) We will be diving in to all of the other subjects next week, once the rest of our books arrive.

Before these pictures get buried any further into my camera roll, here are some iphone photos from August.

Desmond played along with me as we found a couple more backgrounds for #dresstherainbow. But I think Desmond wins the prize. He was committed to dressing the rainbow.

August was the month we bought our first house! We had lots of amazing people who helped us in so many ways (including Maggi and Jeremy, pictured below) Thank you to everyone who helped clean, move, or provide food for us this month! We are so very grateful for all of you!

I had to get a picture of all 4 of my kids who slept in the nursery I had painted for Liam before he was born. (4th photo) So many memories in that house.

Rachel and I were able to find a red wall! Thank you, Target!

Liam turned 7 this month. We love this little guy. I stare at him and wonder how he grew up so quickly. He has always dreamed of being an artist when he grows up. But as we’re reading about space in our Science, he now says he wants to be an engineer for NASA–and he’ll do art for his hobby.

His very specific request for his cake. Yellow and teal stripes. Covered in sprinkles–but no sprinkles on top!

Desmond wakes me up around sunrise most mornings. So I always have to sneak a peek through the windows in the living room. (3rd photo)

For anyone who has been to our house and has noticed the cat door (3rd picture)…It’s being put to good use!

This blue door will soon be a bright pop of….some color. I can’t decide! Don vetoed hot pink 🙂

And since I have you here…a short and sweet edition of Kids Say

Kai–“Mosquitoes eat your skin and then drink your blood.”

Kingston–“that’s really cool.”

Kingston–“What’s for dessert?”
Me–“I’m not sure if we’re having dessert tonight.”
Kingston–“But there has to be dessert…..I need dessert.”

Me–“Isn’t it cool that we have a new house?”
Liam–“Yeah, now we can do anything we want when we’re in there…except lie.”

Me–“Guys, today is Desmond’s one month birthday.”
Kai–“So how old is he now?”

Me–“I’ll turn 28 on my birthday.”
Liam–“I’m not sure if you will.”
Me–“Why not?”
Liam–“Because you might die before then.”

new house tour

We’ve been in our new house for a week now and we’re loving it! The kids love exploring all the new places to play and I think we’ve all been loving the amazing view out our living room windows. I’m sure I sound like a broken record. But seriously, just let me celebrate that view for a little bit longer.

So now that we’re feeling a tiny bit settled, it’s about time to shake things up and start painting. It’s sure to be a HUGE job because I pretty much want to paint almost every room.

For anyone who is super nosy like me, I thought I would go ahead and share the listing pictures to let you see what it looks like currently. And if you’re really bored, I also included brief descriptions for some of what I hope to do with the rooms.

I’ll start off with the living room that I can’t stop talking about. See those tall walls? Above stairs? You know, two stories tall? Yeah, I want it all painted. And call me boring, but I just want a pale gray covering all the walls. At least for now. I will probably throw in some fun accent walls in the future. But I just want to start with gray. I plan to decorate with lots of color though.

This is the view from the living room to the kitchen. The dining room table is between there for the open concept that I desperately wanted. Once again, I just want all gray walls.

The kitchen was one of the most important aspects for me when looking for a home. If it didn’t open up to the living room (or give us the option to renovate and open it up) I didn’t even want to see the rest of the house. Call me picky. But I knew what I wanted. Also, as much as I love upgraded kitchens, I also didn’t want to be paying extra money for a fully upgraded kitchen with finishes that were not my style. So this kitchen is the original kitchen (from 1996) but it allows me to upgrade it to my taste. To start, I’ll paint the cabinets white. Eventually I’d like to upgrade counter tops, back splash, and appliances but that can wait.

This is the master bedroom. I plan to paint it eventually but it’s not on the top of my priority list right now.

I’ve been dreaming of a master bathroom for 8 years. Our old house had a bathroom right by our room but it wasn’t connected and we shared it with the kids. This bathroom has a garden tub and a giant walk in shower. There are some updates that I’d like to do down the road but I’ll just start out with a coat of paint to brighten it up.

This is Evangeline’s room. This room will be one of the first to be painted. It’s just too dark for me. Once again, I’ll probably start with a pale gray and then add lots of pops of color.

This is the kids’ bathroom. It already has light gray walls so I’ll probably just avoid doing anything with this bathroom for a while.

This is the boys’ room. Since the walls are white and bright, I’ll probably hold off on any painting. But I have seen some fun statement walls using washi tape while browsing pinterest. So I may do something fun on one of the walls eventually. I think I’ll stick with a black, white, and wood (furniture) themed room for them.

This is the half bathroom on the main floor. The blue is a little dark for my liking. This bathroom will probably end up being one of the first painting projects because it’s small and will help me feel like I accomplished something.

We have an unfinished walkout basement. Over the years we plan to finish it, starting with Don’s studio space.

This other side will function as a play room, game room, family room, etc. And the washer/dryer are in the back.

And last, but not least, are the two decks. The lower deck is small and leads up to the basement door. The upper deck is right off the living room. I hope to find some patio furniture and I also want to figure out how to hang some string lights. Our back yard is really sloped so basically no back yard area for playing or entertaining. But when searching for a house, there’s always something that you don’t like. This yard is the part that we don’t like.

So that’s it! Hopefully things will begin to look very different around here soon!
