Kids Say

Like I’ve said a million times before (and will keep reminding you,) the Kids Say posts are some of my favorites. This one will probably be a little more special to me down the road because I questioned Liam and Kai on some things about me.

I had seen some people posting a questionnaire that kids had answered about their Moms. But when my friend, Rose, posted her daughter’s answers on Facebook, I knew I had to join in. It was so sweet to me that the answers reveal in a childlike way how much they love and are being loved.  I asked Liam (age 6) and Kai (age 5) the questions separately so they wouldn’t base their answers off what the other said. So if you’re interested in reading, those are posted at the end of this regularly scheduled Kids Say post 😉

(plus a few extra iphone shots that didn’t make the cut in the last post—because I take too many pictures and I don’t like to blog without pictures!!)

Kai was trying to determine the source of a bad smell…

Me–“well, what does it smell like?”
Kai–“kind of like…..a bad duck.”

Me–“Kingston, what do you want to be when you grow up?”
Kingston–“A firefighter….with brown skin.”
(Sorry buddy, just like your parents, you will probably never exceed “extremely pale.”)

After asking Kingston if he was excited about Chris and Rachel’s wedding..
“Yes! I love hotdogs!”

Because she has older brothers who always run to the window to watch the ice cream truck drive by and yell out which characters they see on the side of the truck (Sonic and Batman), every time Evangeline hears the ice cream truck coming, she shouts “BATMAN!” and runs to the window to watch it drive by.

As he was slurping out the last bit of gogurt from the tube, Kingston heard all the (obnoxious) sounds he was making and said, very seriously, “This is a beautiful song.”

Kai–“No, I didn’t say that out loud. I said it out quiet.

Me–“Evangeline, were you testing your limits?”‘
Liam–“She was making her own limits.”

Liam–“It smells like Doritos in here. I guess it’s just Kingston’s feet.”

playing at the creek

As I’ve mentioned before, we have been trying to take advantage of Don’s weekends to hit up places in our area to do something fun with the kids. We have been fortunate to have some pretty perfect weather on the days we go out. This past Monday was no exception.

We checked out the creek at Mastodon State Park. The boys had been there before and absolutely loved it. So we stopped by the dollar store to pick up some creek essentials. Because apparently the creek isn’t nearly as fun if you don’t have nets to catch fish or buckets to house the fish.

It also isn’t nearly as easy to catch fish with a butterfly net as one would think.
But!! I did catch one for the boys and Don got a tadpole. So everyone was happy–until Liam realized that we were not taking them home as pets.

Getting packed up and getting to our spot was a bit stressful. But I knew it would be worth it once we set up our chairs and the kids started playing. And I was so right!

Evangeline ended up tripping and, consequently, went slightly under water at one point. She was a little bit traumatized. She spent probably 30 minutes cuddled up next to me afterwards. Not a happy event for her but I’ll take all the cuddles I can get 🙂

We found this fun donut inflatable at the dollar store! I’m not the only one in my family who was excited about it.
There may have been an incident with a certain 6 year old accidentally letting it float away. Followed by a big break down. Followed by his dad going downstream to see if it had gotten caught anywhere. Thankfully he was able to retrieve it and our family is still in possession of our very special $1 inflatable donut.

Days like this make it worth the hassle of loading up tons of stuff and lugging all of it (plus 4 children) to a creek. In the end, you forget about how much stress was involved in getting there and you can just enjoy the memories made.

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!! (Hopefully with more good weather!!)
